Open Call to participation: The Thirsty Ones – Schwerte, Germany | 5 to 18 September 2022
STUDIO 7 Theater is pleased to announce that the Accademia dell’Incompiuto (Academy of the Unfulfilled), after France, Brazil, Ecuador and Lithuania, will bring to Schwerte their creative exploration, The Thirsty Ones, inspired by René Daumal’s La grande beuverie (A Night of Serious Drinking).
The project brings together years of working of both STUDIO 7 Theater and members of the Academy of the Unfulfilled, with this surprisingly contemporary text from 90 years ago. The Academy of the Unfulfilled is a new cultural association, founded by artists from different countries, among which Mario Biagini, formerly founder and leader of the Open Program of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards.
The Thirsty Ones is an invitation to a journey of two weeks, participating with others in an artistic exploration conducted in group, in search of what may quench our thirst, in these times that seem to be so deserted. Behind the musical joy and the grotesque humor of Daumal’s text, The Thirsty Ones echoes the poignant sense of loss – of loved ones, ideals, meanings, dreams and illusions – that accompanies us all, along with the unquenchable thirst that has always driven humanity, and the often-delirious efforts to satisfy it, through the exploration of a collective dimension in music, poetry and theater.
